Mr Kleinhans is a projects lawyer and has intimate knowledge of the energy industry and is currently in-house Senior Legal Counsel at INPEX which is a worldwide oil & gas exploration and production company currently involved in more than 70 projects across 28 countries. INPEX is ranked in the top 50 global energy companies and is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. He is currently working on the US$34bn Ichthys Gas Field Development in Western Australia which is a Joint Venture between INPEX, TOTAL, and the Australian subsidiaries of Tokyo Gas, Osaka Gas, Chubu Electric Power and Toho Gas. The process is being managed by JKC Australia LNG which is made up of JGC Corporation, KBR and Chiyoda Corporation. Between the three companies, they have been responsible for designing and delivering a large percentage of the world’s major oil and gas processing plants and large-scale LNG facilities.
He has considerable experience across a broad range of transactions across a number of key Asian jurisdictions including M&A, project finance, renewable energy, oil and gas, mining, as well as private equity investment funds whilst working for major Australian and British law firms around the world. Whilst working in Tokyo for Ashurst, he worked on transactions in Myanmar advising on the largest gas pipeline project in Myanmar – the Shwe Gas Pipeline. This was touted as being one of the country’s landmark projects in recent years and valued in the many billions of dollars.
